Story of Gallery Café
It is just more than a restaurant
A journey, A Story, A Dream
Here's a story of an ardent food lover and traveler. With the new era of hashtags and mushrooming food bloggers, he chose to stay away from creating an identity based only on his reviews. He wanted to share the passion for food. Great food, to him was the authentic and indigenous taste created by the unique flavor, texture and spices coupled with the fond memories. He travelled to various parts of the world to experience the local favorite, only to come back to Dubai - a city which nurtures diverse cultures and cuisines. To tell the world his unique food journey, he did not create a blog, but created a restaurant. Re-creating his favorite dining experience from all over the world, including the ambience, he wished his guests experience his personal favorites in Gallery Cafe.
American Cuisine – at the diner style of seating
He loved burgers! The fast-food chains had nothing in comparison to the freshly grilled home-made patties. He believed he had the best burger in an American diner by the corner when he visited Texas. The lady who owned the diner said that the specialty was the perfectly grilled beef steak and the cheese on top which has just aptly melted on the patty. This was accompanied by the home-made pickle and a can of aerated beverage.
Italian cuisine – at the roadside Terrace
He visited Rome with his girlfriend, and could not get enough of the countless dates that they had on the roadside cafés where they had shared a pasta, a risotto, a tiramisu and even just a cup of coffee. Even on the roadside in the daytime which was bustling with life and busy with work, they found the perfect quiet. He loved looking over the busy street and feel the light breeze as he sipped on the latte.
Indian cuisine - Private Dining Room
He visited India for a week and stayed with his friend, Ravi, in his huge ancestral house. It was such a surprise as the whole joint-family had gathered for dinner. Ravi's mother had made delicious daal tadka, Butter Chicken, Paneer Tikka, Bhuna Ghost and of course, Biriyani. The meal was ended by the delicious Indian rasmalai. This remained a fond memory to him - not only because of the simple yet delicious food, but also because the meal commemorated the togetherness of the family.
Arabic cuisine – Round Tables
He once visited his friend in Abu Dhabi. In the evening he stayed back for a dinner which was so elaborate and pompous. The meal started with the variety of mezzehs that followed by the aptly grilled Riyash ,Sheesh Taouk and abundant fresh fruits and olives. The grandeur and elaborate spread over the round table that the family was seated in appealed to him the most. The meal not only showcased royalty but it was more like a celebration as the entire family was spoiled with choices in food.
Asian Cuisine – The wooden community Table
For 3 months, he had travelled South east Asia visiting the Buddhist monasteries. On visiting one such visit in Fujian, he was inspired by a community meal. A long bench was made outside the monastery where everyone joined for a simple and comforting meal of wonton noodle soup. He felt an unique sense of belonging where all the people present connected over a simple yet sumptuous bowl of noodles. Even the chef had joined in for the meal later and the whole table which comprised of strangers left as friends who connected over thoughts and lifestyle beliefs.
Pilipino cuisine – 2/4 seated tables
He visited the archipelago of Philippines in one of his visits. The beaches and the deep blue water made him feel a sense of calm. To add to it was the delicacies of the local food. A particular café interested him the most which had huge window panes as walls that overlooked the sea and the restaurant consisting of smaller sets of tables was relishing the meals of Chicken Adobo, Fish Sarciadi, Beef Kare Kare and Sinigang Soup. Brimming with the local music, it was such a happy place indeed.
